New York City’s The Doughnut Project has announced that it will debut a new doughnut just in time for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) through a partnership with Mexico's Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya.

The limited-edition Day of the Dead doughnut is inspired by pan de muerto, the traditional sweet bread typically served during the holiday. The doughnut has a flavor profile similar to pan de muerto, with orange blossom and anise, and is decorated with colored sugar and a frosted shortbread cookie in the shape of a skull.

Customers can purchase the Day of the Dead doughnut at The Doughnut Project from Monday, October 29 to Sunday, November 4. Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya is getting in on the fun by running a social media contest in conjunction with the product launch. Guests who post a photo of the doughnut on Instagram with the hashtags #AndazMayakoba and #DoughnutProject will be given the chance to win a two-night stay with breakfast at Andaz Mayakoba (exclusive of airfare).

Earlier this month, The Doughnut Project teamed up with Carnegie Deli on a limited-time Rueben Doughnut Sandwich. The sandwich consisted of caraway seed dough with Carnegie Deli’s beloved pastrami, brûléed Swiss cheese, and “Russian dressing” Glaze with a cornichon (small pickle) garnish.
