For the past several years, bake Magazine has recapped the year in baking with our top ten stories. However, this year was bigger than previous ones, demanding a larger list. With COVID restrictions continuing to be relaxed, the baking world came back in a big way in 2022.

The culmination of this exciting year was the largest baking industry event in the Western Hemisphere, the International Baking Industry Exposition. Taking place in Las Vegas from September 17-21, IBIE 2022 welcomed the industry and close to 20,000 professionals after a three-year hiatus from events. Over the four-day expo, attendees flooded the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center, looking for the latest equipment, ingredient and supply solutions from more than 800 industry suppliers.

“IBIE 2022 has exceeded all expectations,” said Dennis Gunnel, IBIE chairman. “The Baking Expo has a long history of championing innovation aimed at the changing needs of our bakers—from the advancements on the show floor and IBIEducate presentations to the high-quality buyers walking the aisles. During a time when trade events are getting a fraction of their pre-pandemic participation, our industry showed up.”

2022 also saw an important milestone for our parent company, Sosland Publishing. In March, the business celebrated 100 years since it was established in 1922. To mark a century of delivering indispensable information across the food industry, the company released a series of special feature articles through its brands’ magazines and websites as well as a book highlighting the company’s journey covering the food industry. In addition, Sosland Publishing hosted a successful centennial celebration during IBIE 2022.

With that in mind, we highlight the topics our readers found noteworthy in the past year. The following are our top 15 stories for 2022.
