The Las Vegas Valley’s most talented pie makers will show off their original and delicious pie recipes in a new contest sponsored by The Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas.

With Waitress the Musical set to be a part of the performance center’s 2018-2019 Broadway Las Vegas Series in October, pies are a big part of its promotion. The "Baked from the Heart: Waitress Pie Contest" will ask entrants to submit a pie recipe along with a photo of the creation.

These pies will be judged by pie experts from the iconic Freed’s Bakery in Las Vegas. Three finalists will then be chosen, and will bring fresh-baked versions of their pies to be judged live on stage at Mix 94.1’s Bite of Las Vegas at Desert Breeze Park on Saturday, September 15.

The grand prize winner will receive four tickets to the opening night of Waitress the Musical on Tuesday, October 9, have their recipe inserted in the Waitress cookbook sole during the event, four hospitality tickets to Mix 94.1’s Bite of Las Vegas 2019, and two spots for the winner and a guest in an upcoming Freed’s Cake Decorating Class taught by one of the stars from Food Network’s Vegas Cakes.

All entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 31. The Top 3 will be selected and notified by Monday, September 10. Entries must include:

  • Each pie must be made from scratch and contain at least a bottom crust
  • Creative recipe name
  • Ingredients in order, complete and typed recipe with clear directions
  • Photo of the completed pie
  • Special history or your story behind why this recipe is your favorite
