Although Oktoberfest celebrations across the country won’t be the same this year in the age of the coronavirus, a Chicago donut shop is looking to provide a sweet new way to celebrate the beloved German holiday.

Stan’s Donuts & Coffee has announced that donut guru and Stan’s ‘Chief Doughboy’, Rich Labriola, has created the world’s first pretzel donut. Made with Stan’s signature yeast dough, the Stan’s Pretzel Donut is fried, soaked in a pretzel bath, then baked to perfection. Each pretzel donut is drizzled with Stan’s signature vanilla icing.

Starting Saturday, September 19, the Stan’s Pretzel Donut will be available at all twelve Stan’s locations in Chicagoland. Other seasonal treats coming Thursday, September 10 include the Pumpkin Old Fashioned Donut, Apple Cider Cake Donut, Fall Glazed Donut and Apple Pie LeStan.

“We’ve been working on this for a few years now, trying different variations to find the perfect balance between sweet and savory,” says Labriola. “As someone who has been baking and working with pretzels and donuts my entire life, I’m excited for our fans to sink their teeth into what I know is the ultimate pretzel donut.”
