Earlier this week, Specialty’s Cafe & Bakery, a sandwich and baked foods chain with more than 50 locations in three states (California, Illinois and Washington), shuttered all of its locations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The company, which has been in business for 33 years, noted that current market conditions attributed to the pandemic and shelter-in-place policies “have decimated company revenues.”
As one final treat to its fans, Specialty’s gave away frozen cookie dough for an hour Thursday morning at its Redwood City, California warehouse. Each visitor received one box featuring 90 frozen cookie pucks of a single flavor.
We are giving away frozen cookie dough as a thank you to our loyal customers. All cookie flavors will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Limit one box (90 frozen cookie pucks of a single flavor) per customer. Thursday, May 21 from 10:00 AM – NOON Warehouse address to be released tomorrow at 8:00 AM via Instagram and Facebook posts. (Hint: Location is in the SF Peninsula.) Please wear masks to protect the staff and other customers.
For those lucky enough to receive one of these boxes, Specialty’s also provided baking instructions on its Instagram page. It was a way for the chain to show its gratitude to its local community for many great years.
Baking Instructions: Thaw in the refrigerator prior to baking. Bake from a refrigerated state for best results. In a convection oven, bake for 18-20 minutes at 350 degrees, let cool for 3-5 minutes, then serve. In a non-convection oven, bake for 22-24 minutes at 350 degrees, rotating half way through. Let cool for 3-5 minutes, then serve. Cookie pucks should be kept in the freezer until you're ready to start the thawing process to bake. Enjoy!
