Last year, it was announced that Starbucks would serve its Nitro Cold Brew at 100 percent of its company-operated locations by the end of 2019. The company is on track to meet that goal, and currently has taps in 80 percent of company-owned stores.

To celebrate the near-nationwide availability, Starbucks is offering free Nitro Cold Brew shots at participating stores on Friday, August 2. The shots will help introduce many customers to this relatively new beverage.

Starbucks’ Nitro Cold Brew is a small-batch cold brew, slow-steeped and infused with nitrogen for a naturally sweet flavor and velvety finish. It was first introduced in 2018 at the Starbucks Roastery in Seattle, and quickly became so popular that it was expanded to hundreds of Starbucks stores later that year.

Cold drink innovation has led to afternoon sales growth for Starbucks. The company credits Nitro Cold Brew as a key reason for this success. “A customer favorite, Nitro Cold Brew, remains on track to be deployed across all U.S. company-operated stores and be supported by advertising by the end of the fiscal year,” says Kevin R. Johnson, president and chief executive officer at Starbucks.
