Do-it-yourself kits are becoming popular items for bakeries to offer as a way to bring in revenue during the coronavirus outbreak. They give families a fun activity to do while social distancing and allow bakeries to bolster their sales in a unique way.

One bakery making good use of this idea is Collegeville Italian Bakery in Collegeville, Penn. The bakery and pizzeria has introduced pizza and cake kits for customers to enjoy at home.

The Pizza Kit includes a fresh dough ball, two containers of cheese, flour to use on the countertop with the dough, a container of cornmeal (optional), a topping such as pepperoni and a container of sauce. The kit makes a 16-inch pizza.

The “For Heaven’s Cakes” kit includes a small vanilla cake, six vanilla and chocolate cupcakes, vanilla and chocolate icing for decorating, chocolate sprinkles and multi-colored sprinkles. An Easter version that was just introduced includes an egg-shaped cake, along with the cupcakes, chocolate and vanilla icing, pink, yellow and blue icing and colorful sprinkles.

For customers who order from the bakery for takeout, they can also take advantage of free refills (limit of five ounces maximum per person) of hand sanitizer.
