The 2017 National Festival of Breads, hosted by two of the biggest names in bread baking, King Arthur Flour and Red Star Yeast, will take place June 17, 2017. The NFOB is a bread baking contest which encourages those who like to bake to develop their skills.

Entries for the event will be accepted through January 16, 2017. The contest emphasizes the role that bread plays in a healthy and active lifestyle. Adult amateur bakers, ages 18 and up and legal United States residents residing in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, can submit original recipes for ethnic breads, rolls, time-saving and simple breads, and whole grain breads online at the event’s website via an online submission form.

Youth bakers, ages 12-17, can also submit recipes for yeast breads and quick breads using the same form.

Judges will evaluate all the recipes and will select 8 finalists from those entries, who will then be invited to the National Festival of Breads to participate in the competition. Each finalist will receive airfare and accommodations for the event, as well as $500. They will also take part in a Kansas wheat farm and flour mill tour and various other activities.

The Grand Prize winner from the adult division will take home $2,000, a trip to attend a baking class of their choice at the King Arthur Flour Baking Education Center in Norwich, Vermont, and a supply of Red Star Yeast.

The youth division Grand Prize winner will receive a $500 scholarship, and two runners-up will receive $250 scholarships.

Special awards will be given for recipes in several categories, including best recipes using King Arthur Flour Sprouted Wheat Flour, white whole wheat flour, corn ingredient, and soy ingredient.
