Despite the current conflict in Ukraine, The Rye Baker has announced its 2022 European Rye Tours will be conducted as scheduled for late summer and early fall. Guests can choose from two itineraries – both curated and led by Stanley Ginsberg, author of The Rye Baker and America’s rye bread authority.

  • The Baltic Rye & Beer Tour (19 September - 2 October) will start and end in Helsinki, Finland. In between, the group will travel to Latvia, whose rye culture stretches back millennia and where rye bread is considered a cultural treasure. They’ll then return to Helsinki and continue to Raseborg, on Finland's southwestern archipelago, for the Fiskars Slow Food Festival. The cost is $5,480/person double occupancy/share and $6,195/person single occupancy.
  • The Alpine Rye Tour (3 October - 16 October) will begin in Vienna, Austria and conclude in Munich, Germany. In between, the group will visit Linz, Austria and Bolzano, Italy – two beautiful small cities nestled in the Alps and notable for their rye baking traditions. The cost is $6,022/person double occupancy/share and $6,729 single occupancy.

Both itineraries include top-drawer accommodations and dining, visits to sites of historic, cultural and culinary interest, briefings with national and regional bakers’ associations, and plenty of bakery visits.

More information, including detailed itineraries, can be found on the tour website. Those interested in signing on can use the Contact Form on the website to have questions answered and confirm reservations. A $750/person deposit – fully refundable until May 15, 2022 – will hold a place. Group sizes are limited to a maximum of 20.
