Throughout 2018, the Bread Bakers Guild of America underwent the selection process to choose its team that will compete in the Coupe Louis Lesaffre regional qualifier in 2019 and then compete in the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie in Paris in 2020.

Twenty two bakers submitted their applications for the team, with tryouts taking place in February 2018 and final tryouts taking place in July 2018. The Bread Bakers Guild of America has officially announced the members of Team USA 2020:

  • Jerod Pfeffer – 460 Bread in Driggs, Idaho
  • Kate Goodpaster – Patisserie 46 in Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Nicolas Zimmermann – La Fournette in Chicago, Illinois

Bread Bakers Guild Team USA will consist of three team members and three alternates for each of three categories. Pfeffer will compete in the Baguette & Specialty Breads category, Goodpaster will compete in the Viennoiserie category, and Zimmermann will compete in the Artistic Design category.

The judges for Team USA included Jeff Yankellow, Didier Rosada, and Nicky Giusto. Yankellow is the Chair of the BBGA Board of Directors, Rosada has coached four Team USAs to medals at the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie, and Giusto competed at the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie on Team USA in the Baguette and World Bread Category in 2016.

Revent International hosted the tryouts at its facility, the American Test Bakery, in Sommerset, New Jersey. The American Test Bakery is a place for bakers to come to learn, test, train, and become more educated on the various oven options available to meet any bakers’ needs.
