Crack pie, naked layer cakes, and pizza are coming to Boston. Milk Bar plans to open a store in the city’s Harvard Square early next year.
Christina Tosi’s iconic bakery already has locations in in New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Toronto. Milk Bar’s Boston location will be a joint venture along with &pizza, a Washington, D.C.-based pizza chain that will share the space.
The Boston location took a long time to come together. It was announced way back in July 2017 that the companies planned to team up for ‘Milk &pizza’ at Cambridge, Massachusett’s Harvard Square. The Cambridge Zoning Board of Appeals took its time in approving the companies' special permit, based on the area’s historical significance and the hesitance to disrupt that identity.
Both companies are excited about the possibilities of this location.
“We’ve listened to the community and heard loud and clear that they’re looking for more than just another pizza shop—they want a neighborhood partner,” said &pizza co-founder and CEO Michael Lastoria. “&pizza stands for connection, inclusion and unity, and joining forces with Milk Bar is a perfect example of how we will bring those values directly to Cambridge.”
“The restaurants and cafes in Harvard Square help fuel some of the most brilliant and innovative minds in the world, and I’m so excited for Milk Bar to be part of this community,” Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi added.
