Lesaffre Yeast Corporation and Red Star Yeast Company, LLC have announced an increase in fresh and dry yeast and ingredient prices effective February 1, 2011, in the United States and Canada.

Fresh cream yeast prices will be increased 2 cents per pound, as is, and fresh compressed yeast prices will be increased 4 cents per pound.  Dry instant, active and yeast for mix prices will be increased 6 cents per pound.  The increase will apply to all yeast sales and existing supply contracts as they expire.

Ingredient prices will be increased between 5 and 10 percent.  Customers will be advised by their local sales representative of the actual adjustment for products ranging from baking powder, Replacit milk powder to yeast based RS 190 and Relax + YF.

Increased cost for sugar substrate, coupled with strong market price increases in chemicals and processing ingredients, utilities and fuel expense create the need for the price adjustment.  Grain market inflation and strong demand for agricultural chemicals which are employed in the yeast manufacturing process add to the processing cost increase.
