James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Dominique Ansel recently added to his list of businesses with the opening of Dominique Ansel Workshop, a small shop located inside his commercial kitchen in New York City that serves up viennoiseries including fresh-baked breakfast pastries and decadent chocolate creations.
Dominique Ansel Workshop’s menu features a variety of croissants including an olive oil croissant made with cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil and a hint of rosemary and garlic. There’s also pain au chocolat, a honey roasted peach Danish and a croissant breakfast sandwich featuring a French omelet filled with Boursin (French cream cheese with herbs and chives).
On September 10-12, the shop will feature its first guest, pastry chef Roy Shvartzapel from popular online bakeshop Panettone by Roy. On those days, Chef Shvartzapel will bake and serve an exclusive new panettone flavor he created with Ansel just for this weekend: Caramelia Chocolate Orangette.
This double chocolate panettone is made with fluffy chocolate dough studded with chunks of Valrhona Caramelia (caramelized milk chocolate) and candied orange peels. It's available for the weekend only, through online pre-order for pick-ups or in-person daily while supplies last. Each panettone costs $68 and serves 10-12.
