Founded in 2012 in Durham, Rise Biscuits Donuts has quickly grown into an East Coast favorite, especially in its home state of North Carolina. The chain has risen thanks in large part to its titular donuts, which it hopes will bring in some money for a good cause on Friday, June 1.

On National Donut Day, Rise Biscuits Donuts’ Wilmington location will donate 100 percent of the profits from its chocolate icing donut to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. This nonprofit organization provides food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina.

“We celebrate the donut every day at Rise so we wanted to take the opportunity to help our local food banks feed those in need on National Donut Day,” says Rise CEO Tom Ferguson.

Rise Biscuits Donuts recently announced that it had signed a five-unit franchise deal for the greater Kansas City area, with these stores being its first in the Midwest. The bakery chain also has locations in South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas.
