Melvin Adrian Gallenberger, 86, of Oostburg, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee after an accident doing what he loved, frying donuts.

He was born on February 23, 1929 in Kewaunee to John and Mary (Wergin) Gallenberger. Melvin was a 1947 graduate of Kewaunee High School and then served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. On April 22, 1954 he married Gladys Aulik at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2014. Melvin and Gladys operated bakeries in Green Bay and later in Oostburg all of their lives until retiring. 

Melvin was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls. Melvin enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he loved baking but his true passion in life was spending time with the love of his life, Gladys.

Melvin is survived by his two daughters, Catherine (Carol Schlueter) Gallenberger of Wabasha, MN and Monica (Mark) Syvrud of Germantown; six sons, Steven Gallenberger of Manitowoc, Paul (Sarah) Gallenberger of Green Bay, Peter (Betsy) Gallenberger of CA, Gregory (Marilynn) Gallenberger of Oostburg, Gerard (Lori) Gallenberger of Howards Grove and Patrick (Suzie) Gallenberger of Milwaukee; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Norbert (Joyce) Gallenberger of Manitowoc. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Gladys, one son, Andrew, nine brothers and sisters, Leo, Agatha, Wallace, Leonard, Gladys, Dana, James, Joseph and Madonna.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Melvin's life will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church in Kewaunee with Rev. James Dillenburg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.Relatives and friends may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church until the time of Mass at 11 a.m.
