Having become one of America’s favorite holidays, Halloween is full of ghoulish traditions and frightful celebrations, and this year Atwater Village’s favorite gathering place, the Village Bakery and Cafe on Los Feliz Blvd. is preparing its scariest line-up ever of confections and pastries for their now annual sweet homage to All Hallows Eve: 13 Days of Halloween. Starting October 19th the bakery will begin to unveil a different Halloween themed treat each day.

From favorites such as the Skeleton Gingerbread Men, Ghost Meringues, Monster Eyeballs, Day of the Dead Skull Cookies and Witches Fingers to the debut of the new Zombie Cookie (just in time for AMC’s hit series, The Walking Dead), the Village Bakery and Cafe has created a scary sweet tooth which has fans and customers lining up each day to collect all 13.  The bakery will take orders for quantities of all 13 cookies through October 31.

Owned and operated by entrepreneur and artisan baker Barbara Monderine, the Village Bakery and Cafe has grown from being a local’s favorite to being sought out by customers from across Los Angeles. Coming from a family of home bakers, Monderine was previously a record company executive, but turned in the vinyl for dough to follow her dream of baking for the masses. “This is my absolute favorite time of year,” notes Barbara.  “Halloween is so much fun at the Village Bakery and Cafe and we love coming up with over-the-top ideas.  It’s especially fun because the adults love it as much as the kids.  During the 13 days we see repeat costumers every day; they can’t wait to see what the next treat will be and we sell out fast!”

For the ultimate fan of the AMC hit show, The Walking Dead, which has its Season 3 premier on October 14, Barbara has created the Zombie cookie. The cookie will debut Oct 21 and will be on sale at the Village Bakery & Cafe through November 1.
