Discovery Communications, Inc., the world’s number one, nonfiction media company, announced a licensing agreement with Dawn Foods to create a line of ready-to-sell cakes inspired by the hit TLC series Cake Boss. Accomplished master baker, cake decorator and star of Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro has worked closely with Dawn Foods to create a unique selection of celebration and dessert cakes based on his personal recipes and designs featured on the show.

Coinciding with the highly anticipated return of new episodes of Cake Boss, a selection of buttercream iced cakes will be available this summer at bakeries, grocery stores and warehouse clubs nationwide. This fall, fondant iced cakes will be unveiled, marking the first time fondant has been used in mass production in the United States. The Cake Boss cakes join a hugely successful ready-to-sell cake industry, which makes up an estimated $2.8 billion in sales according to IDDBA, What’s in Store, 2012.

The ready-to-sell cakes and cupcakes will be available year round in an array of designs and flavors. Keeping with Buddy’s time-honored quality and modern innovative techniques, the Cake Boss-branded cakes and packaging will incorporate the old world charm of his renowned bakery, Carlo’s Bakery.

“I have been working hand-in-hand with Dawn Foods to recreate some of my popular designs from the show in local bakeries and supermarkets,” said Buddy. “The ready-to-sell cakes are perfect for fans of the show who want to taste one of my cakes, but may not be able to visit Carlo’s Bakery.”

Although this partnership is a new venture for all parties, the relationship between Dawn Foods and Buddy Valastro is a longstanding one.  Buddy’s bakery, Carlo’s, has used Dawn Foods as a supplier of high quality bakery ingredients for over 20 years. 

Gearing up for its fifth season, Cake Boss follows fourth generation baker Buddy Valastro and his family-owned business in Hoboken, NJ. The series takes viewers behind-the-scenes of Carlo’s Bakery as Buddy and his Italian family create extraordinary cakes while dealing with the dynamics that come with a family full of larger-than-life characters. Cake Boss returns with all-new episodes beginning this summer on TLC.
