The Challah Box is a month-to-month subscription plan that delivers a box full of five pre-measured, labeled ingredients and simple-to-follow instructions that allows customers to make delicious challah in their kitchens.

The founders are two women, Ilana Ramer Bass and Ariel Markowitz, based out of New York City. The Challah Box was created during the pandemic as an ode and celebration of togetherness – to break bread together, to share bread and to celebrate life.

Each box ($45) contains enough ingredients to create 8 loaves. The only things left to add are eggs and water. There is also a subscription option available for the entire year, or one-off purchases. Customers can bake it all at once or freeze some dough to thaw and bake challah weekly. Traditionally, two loaves are baked every week, so one box could last all month long.

The Challah Box’s stated goal is to help customers disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Additionally, 5 percent of the profits from each box are donated to MAZON – A Jewish Response to Hunger, a national organization fighting to end hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds in the United States and Israel.
