Dawn Food Products is pleased to announce David Corning won the California Raisin Marketing Board’s Judges Prize in the Breakfast Category of the third annual America’s Best Raisin Bread Contest, which was held recently at the American Institute of Baking in Manhattan, KS.

Corning, a technical sales representative at Dawn, was one of 13 first-place winners. He was among a total of 38 finalists who were selected to prepare their innovative recipes for a distinguished panel of judges in the categories of artisan, commercial, breakfast and student bread competitions. The final 13 winning entries were chosen on the basis of taste, appearance, originality and value of their final baked products.

However, it’s important to note that Corning didn’t do it alone. Shortly before the contest, he was unavoidably sidelined. So, Team Dawn rallied and Mike Dixon, a national technical sales representative at Dawn stepped in to attend the competition and make Corning’s winning creation, the Golden Raisin Walnut Flip.

The Golden Raisin Walnut Flip, the only fried entry in the contest, was created by using Dawn Raised A donut mix and California Raisin Golden Paste to make a turnover or “flip” that was ultimately glazed and decoratively topped with walnuts. The end result was a uniquely delicious treat and the winner of the Judges Prize in the Breakfast Category.

“I’m truly passionate about baked goods and it is always fun to experiment with new flavors and textures,” said Corning. “I’m thankful for Mike Dixon’s help in making it all happen and turning this challenge into such a great success.”
