Houston Holiday Frankencake

The holidays are a time of indulgence, as evidenced in the kickoff - Thanksgiving.

At Houston's Three Brothers Bakery, they took a dare...and took indulgence to the "nth" degree. Inspired the "Cherpumple," a concoction of cherry, pumpkin and apple pies created by a Los Angeles author, Houston Chronicle food editor Greg Morago commissioned Three Brothers to do the Cherpumple one better. And so they created the Pumpecapple: pumpkin, pecan and apple pies, all baked into their own cakes and layered on top of one another.

The "nearly 10-inch-tall behemoth," as Morago puts it, weighs in at 23.5 lbs. with an estimated 20,000 total calorie count. That's about 2,000 per slice. The pies, cakes and icing are all scratch, and an order requires five-days notice. So, how much does a dessert of this magnitude retail for? The Jucker family, who owns Three Brothers, has declared it to be $10/lb., or $235. But the special holiday price is $175.

  • Garnished with pecan pieces
  • And topped with a generous drizzle of carmel.
