An iconic New Orleans bakery is making a big change later this year. Haydel’s Bakery, known for its petit fours, king cakes, and delicious pastries, will open a new café and coffee shop concept in September.

Known as Haydel’s Bake Shop, the café won’t have a kitchen but will still be able to offer the bakery's most popular items. Croissants, muffins, Danishes, and other grab-and-go items will be available. Haydel’s will partner with New Orleans’ French Market Coffee for the café and will offer brewed coffee, espresso drinks, and frozen coffee.

“I've wanted to do this for four years,” Ryan Haydel tells The Times-Picayune. “We hope that this is the first of a couple, if this one doesn't kill me.”

Since its inception, Haydel’s Bakery has had only one retail location, although it has run several pop-up shops during certain seasonal events. If Haydel’s Bake Shop is successful, it could lead to even more locations throughout the area.
