This year marks 20 years since the June 6, 1998 debut of the popular series Sex and the City. The show, based in New York City, made quite a few actors famous, but it also made one business especially famous.

Magnolia Bakery, now one of the biggest names in the industry, was featured on the show in one scene and that appearance turned it into a phenomenon. Sex and the City fans became obsessed with the cupcake shop, and the name spread even further to people who had never even seen the show.

Today, Magnolia Bakery has bakeries in major markets across the United States and even in international markets like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The company recently announced that it hopes to have as many as 200 stores in the U.S. in the next five years, with the goal of putting 1-3 bakeries in each of America’s top 50 markets.

Crediting some of its success to that first appearance on Sex and the City, Magnolia Bakery is celebrating the show’s anniversary in a special way. On June 6, Magnolia Bakery is giving away 50 of its Carrie cupcakes to customers at all nine of its locations between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m.

The Carrie Cupcake features vanilla cake with pink pastel buttercream and a daisy flower on top. In addition to being offered in-store, the special cupcake will also be offered through an Instagram contest. Fans can follow Magnolia Bakery on Instagram and post a photo of themselves recreating the famous Magnolia Bakery scene from the show. Three winners will be selected by Friday, June 8 and will each receive a dozen cupcakes.
