That Takes the Cake is a sugar arts show and cake competition touted as “The Biggest Cake Show in Texas.” The event, set for February 24-25 in Round Rock, will host talent from around the world.

The centerpiece of the weekend is the Sugar Showpiece Competition, which challenges competitors to carefully incorporate a theme into all aspects of the cake and the cake display. This year’s theme, Science of Cake, will have decorators create entries that convey a discipline of science (such as chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, mathematics, space, or medicine) in sugar art form.

The competition is also a qualifier for the Cake Designers World Championship at the International Federation of Pastry, Gelato, and Chocolate Event 2019 in Milan, Italy. It is one of the most prestigious in the cake world. At the last event, U.S. representative Bryson Perkins came in second place.

Also taking place at That Takes the Cake will be divisional cake competitions, child/junior entries, and a tasting competition. For those in attendance not competing, there will be a variety of classes offered to beginner to advanced students who are interested in learning new techniques, as well as vendors displaying and selling products unique to the sugar arts industry.
