To honor the eight-day holiday of Hanukkah this past weekend, two LA eateries and a celebrity chef combined for some special holiday sandwiches.

Bagel shop Yeastie Boys Bagels teamed up with famous Jewish deli Fat Sal’s Hollywood and celebrity chef Eric Greenspan for what they referred to as “The Fat Jewish.” This sandwich featured a bialy and roasted green apple cream cheese from Yeastie Boys, potato latkes, i.p.a. pastrami and smoked brisket from Fat Sal’s, and chicken liver mousse and crispy chicken skin from Greenspan.

Customers were able to get their hands on these oversized sandwiches on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17 at Fat Sal’s.

“The three of us are sandwich guys and are Jewish — the minute we ran into each other and started talking, we knew we had to team up. It was beshert, which means ‘meant to be’ in Yiddish,” Greenspan tells LA Weekly.

“Jewish deli food is so important to my world, from corned beef and pastrami to rye bread and bagels with lox, I grew up on this in New York! We wanted to pay homage to that. And it’s so, so good!” says Fat Sal’s co-owner Josh Stone.
