Clayton Bakery and Café in Clayton, North Carolina is one of the most well-known bakeries in the state. While it’s best known for its high quality products, the bakery also makes headlines for a more heartwarming reason.

The family-owned and operated business employs people with disabilities, giving them the opportunities to work and be self-sufficient. The partnership is rewarding for both the bakery’s employees and the owner.

“I get emotional, because I see the growth,” says Clayton Bakery and Café owner Rich Girard.

Employee Marque Eason, whose body was severely damaged after being hit by a motorcycle, feels a sense of pride in his work. “I like to push myself, it’s a good feeling,” he says.
