Bimbo Bakeries USA has kicked off its fourth annual “America’s Better Sandwich” contest, which challenges entrants across the United States to submit never-before-seen sandwich combinations for a chance to win a $25,000 grand prize or runner-up prize of $5,000. The contest goes from August 10 to September 15, with full details available at www.americasbettersandwich.com.

Entrants may submit up to two recipes using a minimum of two slices of Arnold, Brownberry, and Oroweat bread as an ingredient.

A panel of experts will judge all eligible recipes based upon nutrition, creativity and ease of preparation. The top 50 finalists will then proceed to a second tier and will be judged by a separate panel on the same criteria. The five finalist recipes will then be prepared by BBU using the instructions provided by the entrant, with each recipe judged by a panel on the following criteria: taste (30%), creativity/innovation (30%), nutritious analysis (30%) and on-line voting (10%).

“No matter how you slice it, the possibilities for creating tasty and nutritious sandwiches are endless, especially with all of the delicious varieties of Arnold, Brownberry and Oroweat breads to choose from,” says Marlene Sidhu, director of Arnold, Brownberry and Oroweat bread. “Each year, we try many unique and delicious recipes, so we’re thrilled to have Tom Colicchio as one of the judges for this year’s America’s Better Sandwich Contest.”

On-line voting will be held October 5 to October 26 to help determine winners. BBU will reveal the highest scoring recipes on National Sandwich Day, November 3. The highest overall scoring sandwich will receive a $25,000 grand prize and the 2017 title “America’s Better Sandwich.”

For every eligible recipe submitted during the entry period, and for every vote cast during the voting period, Arnold, Brownberry, and Oroweat will donate a loaf of bread, up to 10,000 loaves, to its official charitable partner Feeding America.
