According to a report released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the United States foodservice industry has hired a remarkable 313,000 people in the last year, including 53,000 new jobs between June and July alone.

This number accounts for nearly one quarter of all employment growth in the U.S. The foodservice industry far outpaces most industries, including education and healthcare. It’s also set to surpass manufacturing in the next three years. The industry that accounts for 1% of the economy has accounted for 10% of the net jobs created in the last 12 months.

47 percent of the new jobs in foodservice are in full-service eateries, while 37 percent are limited-service.
