James Beard Foundation president Susan Ungaro is stepping down after 11 years at the prestigious position. Ungaro accomplished a great deal during her time at JBF, including being involved in the creation of women’s leadership programs.
“Susan ushered in an era of amazing growth and success for the Foundation and furthered its mission in the U.S. and around the world. She helped place the Foundation at the forefront of the culinary conversation and advocated for its wide-reaching initiatives. Susan’s presence will be missed by her colleagues and friends, but we look forward to Susan’s continued involvement in the future of the Foundation,” says Fred Seegal, newly named JBF Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Emily Luchetti, outgoing Board Chair.
Now, James Beard Foundation will look to fill the position at the end of the year. The board is launching a national search for its next leader, making sure to find a perfect candidate for the highly-paid position. The JBF president makes well over a quarter-million dollars in annual salary.
