The New York Cake Show, in its fifth year, took place June 10-11 in New York City. This year’s event happened to occur on the same weekend as the Tony Awards, so it was Broadway-themed.

Some of the best professional and student bakers from around the country created spectacular works in eleven categories such as Wedding Cake, Sculpture, and Decorated Cookie. A wide range of Broadways musicals were represented such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, Rent, Wicked, and much more.

“These cakes can go for thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars — some of these cakes can go for $5,000 and up, it’s that intricate. This is really a labor of love, you’re doing it for the art, for the competition,” says NY Cake Show founder Lisa Mansour.
