Nizhoni Bakery is located in Carnegie, a borough of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania metro area. The bakery specializes in cupcakes, but has found a unique way to make its offerings stand out.

In March, Nizhoni Bakery began debuted a new service that uses the element of surprise to its advantage. The new delivery option keeps the sender a secret, as fresh cupcakes are discreetly shipped to the sender’s friends, family, co-workers, or even enemies if they so choose.

“Since I don’t have a storefront (only a commercial kitchen where I bake my products), I had to think of a creative way to market my business,” Nizhoni Bakery owner Danielle Skiles told Pittsburgh City Paper. “Since I was delivering most of my orders anyway, the option to send cupcakes to your friends and colleagues in the same way as you’d send flowers or an Edible Arrangement just kind of came to me.”

The sender must give two to five days’ notice for a surprise delivery. Flavors like chocolate, vanilla, almond, and salted caramel macchiato are available. One of the most popular flavors is the Pittsburgh Mud Puddle: chocolate and peanut butter cake, filled with peanut butter cream, and topped with peanut butter/chocolate buttercream frosting and peanut butter drizzle.

Area delivery orders must reach the dozen minimum, with cupcake flavors being mixed and matched for an extra fee. Ordering can be done at Nizhoni’s website.
