Phoenix, Arizona was chosen as the top Bakery Capital of America.

Do you live in a city with great bakeries? Most of us can’t resist delicious baked goods, and we have our favorite stops for bread, cookies, cakes, and more.

Some are more fortunate than others when it comes to these options. Recently, FindTheHome, a real estate intelligence site by Graphiq, set out to find which were the best bakery cities using science.

Keeping in mind that only cities with over 100,000 people qualified, the data scientists at FindTheHome used data provided by Yelp to calculate a Yelp Bakery Index for all cities. Three metrics were used to measure bakery prevalence, inherent quality, and quality relative to other restaurants in the area.

These three metrics were:

Prevalence: The total number of bakeries in a given city.
Inherent Quality: The percentage of bakeries in a given city rated with four or more stars.
Quality Compared to Other Foods: The average Yelp rating of bakeries in a given city compared to the average rating of all restaurants in that city.

Given this criteria, FindTheHome determined the top 50 bakery cities, aka the “Bakery Capitals of America,” with Phoenix, Arizona chosen as the top city.
