The magazine Family Circle has announced that the voting period is now open for its Presidential Cookie Poll, which invites consumers to bake original cookie recipes shared by the families of the two major party presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, and vote for their favorite. This is a tradition that was started in 1992 and occurs in the Fall of a presidential election year.

The Clinton family has submitted chocolate chip cookies made with old-fashioned oats, which they also submitted during Bill Clinton’s two presidential campaigns in 1992 and 1996. The Trump family has submitted star cookies made with egg yolks and sour cream.

Consumers can find both recipes on FamilyCircle.com and vote for their favorite on the Family Circle Facebook Page. The voting period ends in early October, and the winning recipe will be revealed shortly thereafter.

"For the past 24 years, during the high-stakes time of election season, we've been serving up a fun opportunity for readers to brush up on their baking skills and vote for one presidential hopeful's treasured family cookie recipe—simply using the criterion of taste," says Family Circle Food Director Regina Ragone. "These cookies give us a small window into the lives of the potential first families, and we're excited to hear whether readers prefer the classic Clinton confection or the Trumps' star-shaped treat," says Ragone.

In 2012, The Obama family’s white and dark chocolate chip cookies beat the Romney family’s M&M cookies. To view all past cookie contestants and winners, click here.
