The Cake Awards are partnering with FareShare, a national charity supporting communities to relieve food poverty and prevent food waste, by redistributing surplus food to hundreds of charities every day. As the event's official charity partner, FareShare will work with the event organizers to redistribute additional samples used during the judging process, as well as raising money during the event.

The Cake Awards are the only awards dedicated to recognizing excellence in cake — and the judging process involves all products being tested by the panel of expert judges, April 9 and 10. The cakes will then be redistributed by FareShare to many of the 100 charities it supports in London.

Lindsay Boswell, FareShare CEO, says, "We're excited to be partnering with The Cake Awards in their inaugural year. We'll be able to combine these surplus cakes with the range of fresh fruit and vegetables we otherwise receive from the food industry, to provide our member charities with a real treat."

FareShare has 17 operations in the UK that deliver to more than 700 charities, including homeless shelters, children's breakfast clubs and day centers. Each day, FareShare provides food to help feed 36,500 people who may otherwise go without.

Jane Milton, co-founder of The Cake Awards, says, "FareShare is a great charity and we're pleased to be able to work with them for the Cake Awards. I'm sure there will be some fantastic products for FareShare and I'm delighted they will be distributed by this extremely worthwhile cause."

The Cake Awards are now open to enter, featuring a range of categories from Tea Room Cake to Wedding Cake and Supermarket Cake. Only the cakes that have it all will be awarded with the prestigious Cake Awards title, with winners being announced at the afternoon tea and awards ceremony at the Park Lane Hotel in Mayfair, London.

The Cake Awards is a joint venture between food industry expert Jane Milton and event organizers UBM Awards & Partnerships.

About the Cake Awards

The inaugural Cake Awards will take place at London's Park Lane Hotel. Designed to celebrate the best in cake, the awards will recognize everything from wedding cakes, Christmas cakes and the cake mixes you bake at home. The Cake Awards reward only those cakes — and their bakers —  that stand up to the scrutiny of an elite panel of judges made up of some of the UK’s most respected chefs, bakers and food industry experts.
