MoonPie, the original graham cracker-marshmallow sandwich, is celebrating America's service members this Independence Day. For the week leading up to the Fourth of July, the brand will match designated MoonPie donations to active-duty service members and ship freshly made "Patriotic Pies" free of charge directly from Chattanooga Bakery to troops via the USO.
Consumers may visit the brand's website to purchase Mini MoonPies for service members and opt in to have their MoonPie order matched from June 30 through July 4.
"We're honored to celebrate our men and women in uniform with a taste of home," says Tory Johnston, vice president of sales and marketing at Chattanooga Bakery. "We've been making MoonPies for five generations, and we're so grateful to the troops who protect us and serve our country. This is our way of saying thank you."
Mini MoonPies are available in red, white and blue — strawberry, vanilla and blueberry — with "Once in a Blue Moon" blueberry MoonPies having launched in 2024.
"We deeply appreciate Chattanooga Bakery's support of the USO and the people who serve in America's military," says Lisa Marie Riggins, USO regional president. "The USO has provided 'tastes of home' to service members for over 80 years, and Chattanooga Bakery has made it easy for everyone to participate in this support."
Chattanooga Bakery works with the USO, Friends Of The Troops and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to distribute Patriotic Pies to active-duty troops on military bases stateside and overseas, as well as to veterans year round. Tennessee-based, veteran-owned Averitt transports them for free to US bases. MoonPies are also gifted to service members during deployment flight departures and arrivals. Last year, MoonPie shipped Patriotic Pies to Greenland for Space Force troops.
In addition to classic chocolate, vanilla, banana and salted caramel flavors, the brand also offers seasonal limited-edition flavors like lemon and pumpkin spice. Chattanooga Bakery makes over one million MoonPies a day and has a goal of distributing one million Patriotic Pies through its ongoing fundraising program in 2025.
