“Skookies” are now featured at H-E-B’s Central Market in Austin, Texas. If you have not heard, skookies are the latest hybrid bakery product grabbing headlines – showcasing a cross between scones and cookies.

Central Market injects a special flavoring with a center of sweet cream cheese – proving to be delicious!

Other new product innovations at Central Market are churro cookies. These tender, buttery cookies feature a dulce de leche filling – all rolled in cinnamon sugar. This product is part of the sweet and spice trend gripping foodie culture across America.

A division of H-E-B, Central Market opened its doors in Austin, Texas in 1994. Now 30 years later, Central Market has 10 store locations across Texas, including Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Plano and Southlake. Central Market's open, serpentine-flow, full-view European-style layout offers a completely new food shopping experience.

Current plans include a major renovation at its San Antonio store. Plans will improve the shopping experience for customers and the work environment for store partners.

The company plans to refresh the store’s façade and execute a full remodel of the location’s interior, which will enhance the shopping experience. While specific details are in development and plans still require city approval, the second phase will include repositioning select departments, adding more energy efficient fixtures and equipment, expanding seating area for the café, implementing improvements to the breakroom and administrative spaces, and streamlining work areas for store partners, according to the company.

The storefront updates will introduce design elements that complement the neighborhood such as adding windows to allow for more natural lighting and incorporating materials and textures like wood, D’Hanis brick, and metals, the company reported. The second phase will begin shortly after phase one is finished and is expected to be done by mid-2026.
