This year’s winners of The iba UIBC Cup of Bakers are Corentin Molina and Yannis Thouys from France. Teams from six countries competed for the gold medal over the course of two days at iba, the leading world trade fair for bakery, confectionery and snacks. The winners were honored and celebrated on Monday, May 19.
Second place went to Johanna Lenhardt and Lea Wagner from Germany and third place went to Mike Onase and Gerrit Huckriede from the Netherlands.
The prize for the best showpiece went to the team from Germany: Johanna Lenhardt and Lea Wagner. The jury president’s creative prize went to Sigrun Sol Vigfusdottir and Nastasja Kiencke from Iceland.
Following an intensive preparation period, The iba UIBC Cup of Bakers was the big finale at iba. Six nations competed against each other, represented by the best bakers from Germany, France, Iceland, Jordan, the Netherlands and Sweden. Following the competition motto of Art, the participants were tasked with creating masterful baked goods answering this motto. Within six hours, the teams of two had to produce bread, small, party and Danish pastries as well as one baked showpiece in the show bakeries.
On each competition day, the baked goods were rated and evaluated by an international panel of experts consisting of Urs Röthlin (Switzerland), Jimmy Griffin (Ireland) and Josef Schrott (Austria) as well as jury chairman Andreas Schmidt (Germany).
The evaluation of the fully edible showpiece masterpiece took place in the bakery before it was set up at the presentation table. All participants received a medal and a certificate.
