A viewing party for the first episode of The Baking Channel’s new web seriesCake Show, was held Aug. 10 in Kansas City, MO. The first installment of the series features decorators from the Twin Cities. The series is scheduled for public release this fall.


The Tiered Cake Challenge, the episode shown Friday, features decorators Mary Moy, decorator at Face Mears Park, Robyn Hanisch owner of Hanisch Bakery and Coffee Shop, Ly Hang Lo, owner of Cupcake Caramel by Sweets Bakeshop and Roxanne Johnson, owner of the Cake Box Bakery. For the Tiered Cake Challenge, contestants are required to decorate a two-tier cake in under an hour.

In this online web series, four decorators are chosen to compete against one another from each cityCake Showvisits. Season one will consist of six cities. Episodes will be aired on bakemag.com and Youtube.

The structure of the show is very simple. Selected contestants are assigned three timed decorating challenges, The Tiered Cake Challenge, The Quarter Sheet Cake Challenge and The Cupcake Challenge.

For each city, a panel of highly qualified judges vote on the city’s grand champion and winners of sub-category awards such as, Best Quarter Sheet Cake, Best Cupcakes and Best Tiered Cake.

At the end ofCake Show: Season One, a national online ballot will feature winning competitors from all six cities, allowing the public to vote for America’s Best Cake Decorator. Winners ofCake Show: Season One will receive cash prizes and will be featured in bake magazine and onwww.bakemag.com.
