Starbucks is kicking off the new year with the return of its winter menu on Tuesday, January 4. On the menu this season is the Pistachio Latte, back by popular demand for its second year.

The Pistachio Latte features cozy flavors of sweet pistachio and rich brown butter paired with espresso and steamed milk, specially crafted to keep coffee lovers comforted in the new year. The Pistachio Latte can be ordered hot or iced at US stores for a limited time, while supplies last.

Jennifer Galbraith and the Starbucks Reserve Roastery beverage development team originally created a Pistachio Latte for the opening of the Chicago Roastery in November 2019. Her idea for the beverage came from the love customers have for the Italian café classic Starbucks Reserve Hazelnut Bianco Latte and exploring other nuts popular in Italy.

“Hazelnuts are grown in northern Italy, and some of the best pistachios are grown in the southern region of Italy,” Galbraith says. “They call them “green gold’ – there’s even a pistachio festival in Bronte, Sicily.”

The Starbucks Reserve beverage was such a hit with customers, Starbucks beverage development team immediately started looking for ways last winter to bring the spirit of the beverage to life in Starbucks stores across the country.

“When we were given the task to create a Pistachio Latte inspired by the Starbucks Reserve Roastery beverage, we started with Starbucks Espresso Roast as the foundation,” says beverage developer Matthew Thornton. “We then worked to create a Pistachio Latte that complemented all the notes of our signature espresso while giving a nod of the cap to the Roastery.”

In addition to the returning beverage, customers can enjoy $2 off the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich each Monday during the month of January with the return of Meatless Mondays at Starbucks. The Impossible Breakfast Sandwich features the savory flavor of Impossible plant-based sausage combined with a cage-free fried egg and aged cheddar cheese on an artisanal sesame ciabatta bun.
