The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina, host of the National Gingerbread House Competition, is adapting to difficult times to ensure the 28th annual edition of the competition can continue for the 2020 holiday season.

This year’s competition will continue virtually without a public display of gingerbread houses at the historic hotel due to social distancing requirements surrounding the coronavirus. Instead of a physical display, the hotel will have engaging experiences including socially distanced alternatives for hotel guests and fans at-home to view the gingerbread house finalists, to be announced in the coming weeks.

Gingerbread artists of all ages and skillsets are encouraged to enter the competition beginning August 26, 2020 for a chance to win cash and prizes. A renowned group of food, arts and media professionals – including Food Network star Carla Hall – will formally judge the gingerbread designs both virtually and in-person.

In lieu of an in-person August Gingerbread Workshop, the hotel will release a Digital Gingerbread Tool Kit including tips and tricks on how entrants can digitally showcase their creations as well as the rules for entry in the new competition format.

The 2020 National Gingerbread House Competition rules, entry form and digital gingerbread tool kit will be released on Wednesday, August 26. The competition entry deadline is Monday, October 12, the winners will be announced from December 1-12 and the grand prize will be announced on Saturday, December 12.
