A nationwide effort to boost the sales of the foodservice industry on Tuesday, March 24 is being referred to as the “Great American Takeout.” Consumers are encouraged to patronize their favorite establishment on this day in order to help out these businesses during the tough economic period related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Using the hashtag #GreatAmericanTakeout, a growing number of restaurants and foodservice establishments are promoting the special day to people all over the country. With most of these businesses limited to delivery and curbside takeout as their only revenue options, they’re looking to bring in extra business and keep that momentum going throughout the indefinite period of hardship brought on by quarantines, social distancing, and bans of in-person dining.

A coalition of national and regional eateries behind the Great American Takeout campaign is appealing to everyone on social media to ask their communities to participate in several ways:

  • Post on social media about the event, encouraging friends and followers to participate with the hashtag #GreatAmericanTakeout
  • Engage friends, family, and colleagues to support local restaurants by ordering takeout meals
  • Order delivery or pick-up for at least one meal on Tuesday, March 24, then share photos on social media using the hashtag #GreatAmericanTakeout
