With Thanksgiving just over 7 weeks away, Porto’s Bakery & Café is providing a seasonal take on its popular potato balls.

Typically made with a mashed potato ball filled with picadillo (ground beef, onions, peppers, and Spanish seasonings) which is then breaded and fried, the Thanksgiving adaptation features a turkey filling instead.

The Thanksgiving potato balls cost $1.29 each. Other current seasonal offerings include a pumpkin cupcake with cream cheese frosting and Dia de Los Muertos Parisian Cupcakes, both costing $2.35.

At last month’s International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas, Raul Porto of Porto’s Bakery & Café discussed making craft at scale work as a retail bakery. Today, the bakery operates five locations in California and serves more than 10 million customers a year, making it arguably the largest retail bakery in the country.
