Since founding Georgetown Cupcake with her sister Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne in 2008 after moving from Canada, Katherine Kallinis Berman has been working to become a United States citizen.

That journey has been completed, as she joined hundreds of others in officially becoming America’s newest citizens after they took the Oath of Allegiance at the Hylton Performance Arts Center in Manassas, Virginia.

To celebrate the occasion, Georgetown Cupcake provided 450 cupcakes to these new citizens following the ceremony.

In their decade-plus in Washington, D.C., Katherine and Sophie have established Georgetown Cupcake as a premiere cupcake destination in the country. Their success is a perfect example of making it in America.

“I don’t think we could have done it anywhere except for in America. This country has given us the opportunity to fulfill our American Dream,” Katherine Kallinis Berman says.

At the recent International Baking Industry Exposition in Las Vegas, the sisters spoke on how to build and maintain a passionate brand in the baking industry.
