Dawn Food Products is pleased to announce the winners of its Extreme Donut Case Makeover Sweepstakes: Rolling Pin Donuts in San Bruno, Calif., Donut Man in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Bethel Bakery in Bethel, Pa. The bakeries received a donut case makeover and store merchandising in time for National Donut Day, and gave away free extreme banana split donuts created by Dawn Tech Teams who worked alongside personnel in the bakeries to help promote the celebration.
On National Donut Day, the winning bakeries not only gave away gourmet donuts to anyone who walked in and said “I’m going donuts,” but also offered a buy-one-get-one-free promotion. To support the bakeries, Dawn provided decorating expertise and all the products for the free donuts and other gourmet donuts, as well as local print advertising, point of sale and store front merchandising, and public relations outreach. In addition to helping build awareness for the local promotions, local street teams distributed fresh assorted donuts and flyers to the major radio and TV stations, police stations, city halls and prominent banking establishments to help spread the news.
“Customers were lining up at the Bethel Bakery door 15 minutes before the store opened. We gave away 225 banana split donuts and went through four times the usual number of donuts on a Friday,” said Patrick Garlits, Dawn Food Products National Technical Sales Representative.
Similarly, Rolling Pin Donuts in San Bruno, Calif., handed out 800 extreme banana split donuts, and at noon the bakery had already served more customers than it usually does in a day. “We had many regular and new customers mention "I’m going donuts" and "National Donut Day" while waiting in line, and our doughnut case makeover ideas received great reviews not only from Rolling Pin’s owner, but also from its customers,” said Jeff Denney, Dawn Food Products Sales Manager.
At Donut Man in Myrtle Beach, the transactions for National Donut Day exceeded the shop’s best day ever. “It was a party atmosphere, with lots of free donuts and smiling, happy customers,” added Jim Hnath, Dawn Food Products Sales Manager. “Plus, one of the local radio stations was even on site for a live radio feed promoting the festivities.”
More than 450 Dawn retail bakery customers entered the Extreme Donut Case Makeover Sweepstakes for the chance to win a visit from a Dawn Technical team before National Donut Day. Using the highest quality Dawn and DDA products, the Dawn teams created fantastic looking and tasting donuts for their partners.

Dawn Also Helps Sponsor Donut Day Celebration in Cincinnati
Established in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor volunteers who prepared donuts for World War I soldiers, National Donut Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June. This year, the Greater Cincinnati Retail Bakers Association held a family-friendly event in Cincinnati – hometown of the Salvation Army’s headquarters. With the help of Dawn Food Products, the association offered activities like celebrity doughnut-stacking competitions, a doughnut-sliding game, doughnut balancing and a doughnut hole toss. Participating bakeries served free donuts, while The Salvation Army provided free coffee. The Salvation Army in Greater Cincinnati was the beneficiary of the sponsorship funds, as well as any donations made in the familiar red kettles during the event.
