Last year, Paso Robles, California’s Órale Taqueria introduced a special breakfast burrito in celebration of National Doughnut Day. The burrito quickly sold out, and so the taqueria is bringing it back for another year on Friday, June 7.

That day only, Órale Taqueria will serve the doughnut burrito, also known as the “doughrito.” It consists of eggs, bacon, a splash of hot sauce, and a glazed doughnut all rolled in a warm flour tortilla.

“National Doughnut Day isn’t usually an important day for a taqueria, but there’s something so fun and lighthearted about doughnuts that we wanted to capture and be a part of as well,” said owner Kristin Casillas last year when it was first introduced. “We originally thought about offering a Mexican-inspired doughnut, but let’s be honest, we know how to make tacos and burritos — not doughnuts. And then it just came to me: a breakfast burrito with a doughnut stuffed inside. It’s sweet, it’s savory. It’s fun and unexpected and everything we love.”

“Similar to waffles with eggs and bacon — it’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty,” Casillas said.

While many doughnut shops will get the spotlight on National Doughnut Day, other foodservice establishments such as Órale Taqueria have been concocting unique items to get in on the celebration.
