The Salty Donut is known for its creative limited-time doughnuts. In recent years, the Miami, Florida-based shop has introduced such items as a flan croughnut baked with rum, a babka-stuffed babka doughnut, and doughnuts based on popular holiday pie flavors.

The newest limited-time offering at The Salty Donut is one that celebrates the New Year and the idea of looking forward to the future: a champagne-coated fortune cookie doughnut. Debuting on New Year’s Eve, the doughnut features a 24-hour brioche dough with one half dipped in Perrier-Jouët champagne-infused glaze and the other half in Valrhona white chocolate with crushed homemade fortune cookies.

The most exciting part of the doughnut, which is served in a custom Salty Donut Chinese takeout box, is inside. There customers will find a homemade fortune cookie made with edible wafer paper and fortunes made with natural dye, so they can eat their fortune after they've read it.

“When thinking about New Year's, most people look forward to the future,” The Salty Donut co-founder Amanda Rodriguez tells The Miami New Times. “We thought it would be cool to create a mashup between a fortune cookie and a doughnut as a fun spin on the future ahead.”
