Throughout the first half of 2018, 3 national semifinal competitions were held by the FIPGC USA Division throughout the United States to determine the first U.S. Cake Designer competitor for the FIPGC Cake Designers World Championship in Milan, Italy in October 2019.

Those three competitors then faced off in the final at The Ultimate Sugar Show in Atlanta, Georgia in November. The person selected from that group to compete in Milan next year is Liz Marek of Oregon. She is the owner of Sugar Geek Show.

The FIPGC Cake Designers World Championship is an international competition among the most prestigious in the cake world, with thousands in attendance for the event. Held at HostMilano every two years, 16 countries compete for the title of World Champion at the biggest event of this sector on an international level.

At the last event, U.S. representative Bryson Perkins came in second place.

The FIPGC USA Division committee that selected the qualifiers was made up of Kathleen Lange, Bryson Perkins, Nicholas Lodge, Sidney Galpern, Michael Galpern, and Michelle Galpern.
