Ingredients

Westco Richblend Cake Donut Mix   1/50 LB

Bakesense Palm Fry Shortening   1/50 LB

Westco Vanilla Dipping Icing   1/45 LB

Directions

SCALE AND MIX

Scale and mix Westco Richblend Cake Donut Mix according to the instructions on the bag for a small batch. Use your scale to weight all the ingredients, including the water. Use your thermometer to determine the proper water temperature to achieve a dough temperature of 72°F. Let the batter rest for 15 minutes.

FRY

Fry at 375°F for 55-60 seconds per side in BakeSense Shortening. Drain the donuts for 60 seconds. Let the donuts completely cool down.

FINISH

Heat some Westco Vanilla Dipping Icing to 105-110°F. Divide the icing into 2 bowls. Use liquid gel colors to make orange and black icing. Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the heated colored icings.

Fill two piping bags with colored Westco Vanilla Dipping Icing (one orange and one black).

Once the icing on the donuts has set pipe 4 lines in contrasting icing color on each donut to create a snowflake-like pattern (orange lines on black donuts and black lines on orange donuts). Pipe curved lines all around the donuts to connect the straight lines together and create a spider web pattern.

*Alternative decorating method: Dip the donuts one at a time. Before the dipping icing sets pipe three circles in contrasting color on the top of your first donut (orange lines on black donuts and black lines on orange donuts). Immediately draw a knife through the circles in a straight line from the hole toward the outter edge of the donuts to make a web pattern. Repeat these steps for the remaining donuts.

Approx. Yield: 54 – 2 oz. donuts
