New York-based Downtown Cookie Co., a boutique baker of fresh, made-to-order cookies , announced that Whole Foods Market will now carry its cookies in the Bowery Whole Foods store, located at 95 E. Houston St. in New York.

"We're delighted to be carrying Downtown Cookie Co. products in our bakery, " said Elly Truesdell, Marketing Team Leader, Whole Foods Bowery. "Their cookies are moist, flavorful and the perfect size; we couldn't resist bringing them in, and can't wait to see customer reaction."

"Whole Foods has a passion for food and a strict commitment to quality and natural ingredients, which makes it a perfect fit," said Dan Guerrera, founder of Downtown Cookie Co. "Even though they're the world's leader in natural and organic foods, and operate on a big scale, they also believe in local vendors and artisans like us. This is an exciting step."

Downtown Cookie Co.'s chocolate chip cookie was named "Best Chocolate Chip Cookie" by New York Magazine in its 2009 "Best of New York" issue. "Our cookies taste good because we keep it simple and use real ingredients," said Guerrera. "Like Whole Foods, we are committed to the best tasting food in its purest state – we just apply that philosophy to cookies."

The Bowery store will offer all seven varieties of the company's cookies, including: oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, oatmeal chocolate chip, peanut butter, ginger, and their popular shortbread cookie, Jane Street Jam. The cookies will be sold in packages of six in the bakery department.

Downtown Cookie Co. was founded in August 2008 in New York City by Dan Guerrera. His goal was to replicate the dense, delicious cookies his mother made in his youth. In its short lifespan, the company has grown from Guerrera's small kitchen in his West Village apartment to a commercial enterprise. Downtown Cookie Co. cookies are made to order and, along with the Bowery Whole Foods store, are available via the company's Web site and in local coffee houses.
