Just two weeks after debuting its new store format designed to visually enhance the customer experience, Duck Donuts is bringing its concept to California with its first store in the state.

Set to debut on Saturday, July 14 in Huntington Beach, the franchise location will serve Duck Donuts’ signature donuts, coffee blends, tea, espresso drinks, OBX donut breakfast sandwich, donut sundaes, select retail items, and more.

“I first heard about Duck Donuts from a family member and after trying the warm donut for the first time, we were sold and knew California needed this made-to-order concept,” says Gary Kopel, who owns the franchise along with Minal Mehta. “We are honored and excited to help expand the popular East Coast brand to the West Coast and look forward to sharing the experience of a warm, delicious and made-to-order donut with the Huntington Beach community.”

The new store format will highlight the franchise’s iconic beach theme and family-friendly atmosphere. Key design features include a customer-facing topping table, open ceiling plan with colorful lighting fixtures and fans, counters accented with cedar shake, updated coffee bar featuring a floor to ceiling reclaimed oak wood accent wall, high quality wood finishes throughout customer area, newly designed menu boards, a seating and retail merchandise area, and a vibrant color palette throughout.

“The unique concept of building a donut from scratch to finish, just as desired, has truly resonated with our customers,” says Russ DiGilio, Duck Donuts Franchising Company founder and CEO. “The growth over the past five years has been tremendous from the support of our customers and franchisees, and we could not be more thrilled to expand our Outer Banks, North Carolina roots to California.”
