Famous Detroit bakery Sister Pie is set to publish a new cookbook on October 2 called Sister Pie: The Recipes and Stories of a Big-Hearted Bakery in Detroit.

Written by Sister Pie founder Lisa Ludwinski, the book will 256 pages of stories and recipes. 75 sweet and savory pies will be featured, such as Toasted Marshmallow-Butterscotch Pie and Sour Cherry-Bourbon Pie.

Sister Pie got its start in 2013, with its first brick-and-mortar store opening in 2015. Ludwinski has earned great acclaim for her pies, such as her semi-finalist nominations for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Baker.  Sister Pie has become known as one of the primary destinations for pie in all of the country.

“We make pies (and cookies and scones, etc.) with traditional techniques and rustic execution,” says Ludwinski. “There’s the familiarity factor that people crave. But then we use that structure (and the agricultural calendar in Michigan) to allow room for creativity. How can I make a cherry pie taste just a little bit different or be just a little bit special enough that it’s better than pie at home? We focus on creating simple, straightforward flavors with a twist.”

Sister Pie: The Recipes and Stories of a Big-Hearted Bakery in Detroit will pair each recipe with a story from the shop that inspired its seasonal items.
